History
Originally known as the Union of Concerned Black Students (UCBS), the organization was established in 1978 in an effort to create a bond between the Black Students Organization (BSO), the Sisters on Campus (SOC) and the Alpha Phi Alpha (AΦA). The organization's primary objective was to strengthen the unity among its students as well as enhance student/faculty and student/administration relationships. Its priorities consisted of academic excellence, social integration, and a promotion of unity. Its successor, the Black Student Union (BSU) continues to honor that mission.
